My Dream Job

Working for NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)
is a dream of many people. When I was a teenager, my dream could not be any different. I wanted to pursue a career at NASA. I wanted to be an astronaut or a rocket engineer.

When I was eleven years old, my dad took me to Florida to visit DisneyWorld, and I begged him to take me to Cape Canaveral to visit the Kennedy Space Center, which is one of the various NASA Centers in the US opened to the general public.

I was delighted, and my dad was too! I took many pictures and paid close attention to everything the guides said; even tough I did not understand any English at that age. Staring at those huge rockets and complicated computers, I wondered what I would have to do to get a job there. I would have to study a lot of Math, Engineering, Computer Science and English. At that time, I thought it would be a piece of cake! My dad was a Math teacher and also a computer programmer, so he could help me!

Many years went by and the only subject I managed to learn was English (well, at least one)! I quit dreaming about that job a long time ago. In fact, as time went by, I forgot about that dream... A pity, isn’t it? Well, not really! If I had become an astronaut, I wouldn’t be your English teacher right now and that would be really said, right?

Here are some pictures of my adventures at NASA and a link to
Kennedy Space Center

Now, tell me about your dream job.
Did you have any dream jobs when you were a kid?

Cold War, Military Regime, Vietnam War and so on, that was the historical background of my childhood and adolescence. I feel this explosive landscape has condi-tioned my life, my concerns since I was a kid.
My dad had been grown up in a similar environment, he was an eleven years old boy when Brasil was involved in World War II. We, I and dad, were used to talk about our own observations and feelings towards the atmosphere of war, on those days in the seventies when a nuclear worldwide conflict could be started at anytime.
So I grew up under sorts of trends and mentalities whose struggle with one an-other would shape my attitudes towards life, particularly concerning about what kind of job I would choose.
Initially I was fascinated by the fighter plane career: flying those fast planes, shooting other planes, wearing beautiful and bright uniforms, lots of girls...they wouldn’t notice my acne. I really was a very timid guy.
Time has passed by, the dream evaporated, despite my present job has to do with airplanes anyway. But from the stress and turmoil of an air traffic controller routine, which requires a great deal of criticism, I could take myself back, so to speak, to histori-cal concerns. I took a degree in History at Unb in 1999 and I intend to restart producing historical knowledge one of these days.

MY DREAM JOB

My dream job is a ....I want to be a ...

Well, my dream job is really I want to be. Not only I was a child. In the past I did to be a botanic. Right now I want to be a botanic. In the future probably I want to be a botanic too. In my dream job we work outdoor a lot. I like to fell free. I love to work in nature specially with plants. One the most beautiful plants that I know is the Maple Tree. In a native forest, there are small end big Maple Trees, and they have different kind of color flies. There are red, orange, yellow, and green off course. In addition there are all the colors that you can imagine. It is fantastic. I have some Maple flies at home and if you want, I can bring some flies to our class and then you can see them. Since I was a child I have gardening , alone or with my family. My father and mother were a farmer, and then I lived in a farm from I was born at 18. After that I needed to go to the city to take my graduation. And then I’m here yet. I have cycling on weekends and this made me free like field working. Nowadays I’m a businessman, but believe me I want to be a botanic. See you in some native Brazilian forest.

My child dream job (by Salejandra)

When I was a child I’d like to be a singer. Not a pop star, just singer. I was crazy for music. I used to listen music on the radio and I loved to watch TV programs about music. I used to sing in front of the TV. Sometimes I played the famous LP and I sang together.

When I was 5 years old I knew many songs. Something about 50 songs. Many musicians used to visit my house very often and I sang with them.

I started to go to the Baptist Churchill when I was 11 years old I made it because I loved to listen gospel songs. At the Churchill I started to learn music and sing.

I tried to learn Flute and to play guitar. I learned music for a short period 2 or 3 years and I just played guitar for 6 months because I didn’t have the instrument.
At the same time I was playing volleyball and I spent few time to learn music. When I finished the elementary school my dream was to study at ESCOLA DE MUSICA DE BRASILIA. My mother told me I should go to ESCOLA NORMAL, because It would be easier to get a job and make money.

Since I was 21 years old, I’ve worked in advertising and I love to do it. In 1995, I worked with music production and I knew many famous singers. Anyway I still love music I always buy many cds and read magazines about music. I sing on the shower. It makes me feel good.
